The end of the year is right around the corner, I cannot believe it! So much has happened this year and it really has flown by. I hope everyone had a good Turkey Day, mine was, got to spend it with the family and relax for a good portion of the holiday, always a plus!

To update you on the condo/house search… Cindy and I found, what we thought was a great condo. We were about to go into escrow, but we decided to have another look at the condo, this time with our parents. Seeing the condo another time, at a different time of day, with a different perspective really changed things. There were a lot of costly issues that we missed the first time, mainly due to us only being there five minutes the first time.

Through this process we have learned a lot, mainly patience, but at least we walked away with more knowledge of this process. We are going to continue our search, continue saving our money to make this just that much easier and hopefully a better opportunity will cross our paths.

On another topic, while I sit here not doing much, I ended up purchasing a NetFlix subscription. It has a really cool integration with the Xbox 360; you can stream the videos seamlessly to your TV. I have to say the quality is outstanding; the only lacking feature is there is only 12,000 titles to choose from, which sounds like a lot but it really is not when a good deal of them are not the movies I am particularly interested in. Although I do have about 14 in my queue right now, with about 5 already watched over the long weekend. I know they will be adding more over time, which is cool, but at least I can also have them mail me the ones that I really want to see.

Anyway, it is time to go make some money, hope everyone has a good day!

It has been some crazy hot and dry weather out here in Sothern California. Generally it is quite cooler and a tad-bit rainy during winter, but this year has been ridiculous. Must be all that “global warming” that is killing us, right? I do not really know, but the weather sucks, and a lot of people lost their homes in the recent fires. Hopefully everything will revert to how it was when the economy was better, weather was cooler (in winter) and life was just that much easier.

Life has been slow and stressful for me lately, but the time seems to pass quickly. I am trying to keep myself busy and open-minded, but business has been slow; but hopefully after the end of this year it will pick back up. Adding to the stress, Cindy and I found a condo that we are extremely excited for. We put a very firm offer on it and we should be hearing back from the bank if they accepted the offer or not by the end of tomorrow. I really hate the waiting game, we were supposed to be in escrow over a week ago, but things fall through. I guess that is part of the process though, I would not really know as this is my first time buying a home.

That is my update for now, more soon.

After a month of dread, fear, apprehension and whatever other word you may want to include… One of my clients has successfully moved from a T1 connection to a Fiber connection with Cox Business Services.

It took:

Two weeks to get contracts signed by building owners, tenants and so forth

Two and a half to three weeks for construction

Ten minutes to change over to the internet

One hour to test and port phone numbers

Twenty minutes to configure the phone server for the new setup

It was a good experience, and taught me a lot about how phone PRI’s work from the carrier to the client and everything between. I think the coolest part about this experience was seeing how the fiber is cut and bonded with their machine that costs $15,000. I also feel pretty accomplished because I managed the whole project from beginning to end and everything turned out to work just fine, with very little interruption to the client.

Now to tackle the hundreds of other items on my plate…

For those who do not know, Wordpress 2.7 is to include a complete overhaul of the administration area of the software. The first beta was realeased a couple days ago, so I am testing it out. I also read the usability testing report between the version 2.5 administration update and the proposed administration layout, and I have to say it was really an intersting read.

I am really liking this new layout, it is much easier to navigate to do what you need, add new posts, pages, edit things, etc. Keep up the good work dev team!

Fall is definitely settling in Southern California, wind, fire and the hot / cool temperatures. Fall is a close second to my favorite seasons, winter being my favorite. Anyway, business and life have been equally busy the past few months, hence the lack of updates here. I wish I had more time to write more or create some more tutorials, but it is not feasible right now.

My time with KNS is moving quickly, going well, and we still have a hell of a lot to do. We are trying to devise a marketing plan, which was never properly implement with DotResolve, and has not existed with KNS in any true form. Meaning, we are green with creating marketing plans, but we are working through it and should have a clearer path to follow sooner rather than later.

Life in general has been good, despite the global economical disaster, but there is not too much to complain about. Cindy and I started the process of searching for a home to call our own, and it is stressful and exciting all at the same time, something that can wear a man out, for sure. I will definitely post updates about this process as we move forward!

More soon!

Well, finally after 2 months of planning and contract drafting and signing… I have sold my business, DotResolve Consulting, and all of its assets as a buy-in to a larger, more secure consulting company, KNS Consulting, Inc. I will be working with the owner to grow the business in the next year, and years to come, to a level not yet attained. We have many plans for growth which we could not both achieve on our own, so this merger of resources and clientele will help us attain our goals, quicker.

Personally, owning my own business has not been the most lucrative thing I have done with myself, but I have learned so much more about how the world and the people living in it works. There have been many ups, and many more downs than I would like to remember. Selling my business to become partial owner of another, more successful, company came at the right time for me.

The next few weeks are going to be quite busy… We will be migrating and consolidating our email systems, websites, finances, etc. So much to do, and we still have to service clients! This experience has brought new life into me, and has motivated me to work harder than I did when I first went into business. I love it!
