Business

I personally had never heard of oDesk until I stumbled upon it in some offbeat manner, but it looks like a service suited for people in my field of work. oDesk is a service that brings together businesses and I.T. Consultants, Programmers and Designers and if I had actually taken some time to read computing magazines or tech news sites in the past year or two, I would have already known about the service.

On the provider end, the people who service the businesses i.e. me, there are tests you can take to help you offset yourself from the norm, as well as intricate profile options to give yourself, or your business an edge. There are also many businesses utilizing the system, so there is a good amount of work available, and that is usually the pitfall of most services like these, not enough work to suit even half of the qualified users.

I am hoping I can get some extra work off oDesk, and I will keep you updated as I move along.

Business has been decent the past month, although in the last week, it has slowed down, but I have kept myself busy with projects I have been meaning to finish. Namely, the project I have wanted to finish but never had enough time to do so is phpZIPdir. I am certain there are quite a few interested parties as I have gotten emails from users who are anxiously waiting to use the software.

I have taken phpZIPdir from a sort of proprietary script that I wrote originally for myself and it will be easily installable on most any system. A little more about phpZIPdir, it is much more than just a simple radial search. I am building a full-fledged system, with user logins, the ability to control quantity of listings per user, eventually a built in billing and reporting system and much more on top of that.

At the same time, I am building my own open-ended licensing server for phpZIPdir and future products, which may use the same system. I have a lot to finish up but I will start working on all of it now instead of writing!

Until next time!

Taxes were about 60% of my stress the past couple weeks. At least I did not have to pay anything out for last year, after all my financial loses. This year is already off to a better start, I just need to stay away from shady clientele.

Anyway,
Now it is time to get rid of the other 40% of my stress. It is time to take on the City of Santa Ana and their business zoning issues… More on that mess later.

Have a great day!

Well, this post is a few days late but it is still a needed follow up. Attending the business mixer with Coupon Saver CD was a great experience, but very tiring, especially since I came to it sleepwalking. Such a busy week I had! Here is a picture of our banner; I think the printing company did a great job on putting this together:

Coupon Saver CD Trade Show Banner

Anyway, we set up our booth and I got my card-scanning machine ready for any potential advertisers for the CD. There were many advertisers physically participating in the trade show, but really most of them were business to business, so advertising on a business to consumer CD would not be a prime marketing method in my book. As the show opened and carried on throughout the night, we met a great few companies whom would be a fit for our CD. This event may have helped get Coupon Saver CD’s name out a little more widespread.

That is the biggest point of trade shows, is it not?

Oh and one last thing, I wish I would have remembered to take my Nikon D70 with me for the event, it beats the hell out of my Palm Treo’s built in camera. Next time I will remember to bring it.

Tomorrow I will be at Orange County’s Largest Mixer with the owners of Coupon Saver CD, to help represent their product. There is supposed to be over 3,000 businesses attending this mixer as well as 350 exhibitors, so it will be a great opportunity to get Coupon Saver CD’s more wide-spread. I am excited to be a part of this project, and I hope that we come away from this mixer with more leads than we know what to do with. Figuratively speaking of course!

I will post an update after the mixer to let everyone know how it went, and hopefully I can get some pictures.
